Lyon (LYS) to Yerevan (EVN) is the new route on offer from Armavia (U8), the national airline of the Near Eastern state of Armenia. Since 15 May 2011, the 3300km route has been operated every Sunday with an Airbus A319 aircraft, and will continue to be until the end of October.
With a very low frequency of just one flight per week, the route is probably aimed at diaspora traffic between France's second city and the capital of Armenia, as well as tourism and to a limited extent, business traffic. As unlikely as traffic between France and Armenia might seem, this is Armavia's third route to France after Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) and Marseille Provence (MRS). In addition, Air France also flies to Yerevan from its base at Paris CDG.
