British low-cost regional airline Flybe (BE) has announced three new summer-seasonal routes to France from Southampton (SOU) to complement its existing range. From next May, the airline will launch twice-weekly services to Béziers (BZR), a city on France's southern Mediterranean coast and Pau (PUF), a city at the foot of the Pyrenees Mountains, also in southern France, to be operated with 118-seater Embraer E-195 jets. It will launch a further three times weekly service to Clermont-Ferrand (CFE) in France's central Auvergne region, which will be operated by their 78-seater Dash-8 Q400 turboprop aircraft.
All three of the routes are aimed at the British leisure market, and the Clermont-Ferrand route in particular faces no competition. However, competition on the Béziers and Pau routes, competition will be provided by Ryanair (FR), who fly from both airports to London Stansted (STN). The routes and schedules are detailed below:
The first route to be launched out of the three, on 21 May 2011 will be to Clermont-Ferrand, a relatively small city which acts as the seat for the scenic Auvergne region of France. The airport has a number of scheduled flights on regional aircraft, mainly to French destinations, and this Southampton service will be the first to the UK since Ryanair withdrew flights to London Stansted some years ago.

Four days later, on 25 May 2011, Flybe will launch a route to Pau, which appears on its website as 'Pau Pyrénées', an airport which attracts a variety of commercial traffic, with the only other commercial flights to the UK also operated by Ryanair.

Lastly, on 27 May 2011, the airline will launch a route to Béziers, which is in a similar situation as Pau with regards to flights to the UK: the only other current services are with Ryanair, to Stansted and Bristol (BRS).

Nonobstant, sur les lignes à destination de Béziers et Pau, le concurrent majeur, bien qu'indirect, est Ryanair (FR) qui vole vers Londres Stansted (STN) au départ de ces deux aéroports. Parmi les trois lignes, la première à être inaugurée le 21 mai 2011 sera à destination de Clermont-Ferrand, une ville de taille relativement modeste. Son aéroport a un bon nombre de vols régionaux, surtout nationaux, et le vol vers Southampton marquera le retour des vols vers la Grande-Bretagne depuis le retrait de Ryanair d'il y a maintenant quelques années.

Quatre jours plus tard, le 25 mai 2011, Flybe inaugurera une liaison vers Pau, que la compagnie commercialise sous le nom de 'Pau Pyrénées' ; c'est un aéroport qui attire des compagnies régulières et low-cost, mais dont les seuls vols vers la Grande Bretagne sont opérés par Ryanair.
