CityJet: London City-Avignon

CityJet (WX/AF), Air France's London City-based subsidiary that seems to be throwing darts at a map of France and launching routes wherever they stick as of late, launched two routes back in May, both to the Provence-Alpes-Côte D'Azur region in South-East France. London City (LCY) to Avignon (AVN)started back on 29 May 2011, on a somewhat pokey CityJet Avro RJ85 (the ones with a cruel 6-abreast seating plan).

mapThe timetable may seem fairly ridiculous, but do not fear, all shall be explained. The reason is that, although during the week CityJet can occupy their aircraft with business stuff, at the weekends not only are there few business passengers, but London City Airport is actually closed Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings. So CityJet had the brilliant idea of sending them off to France for the weekends, where they can operate charter routes for tour operators, such as Avignon-Figari (Corsica) as in this case. The RJ85 then trundles back up to London on a Sunday evening.
These times obviously encourage weekend breaks in Provence, and bring a bit more life to the otherwise lazy (but colourful) Avignon Airport, whose only other customer is Flybe, Jet2 having decided against returning this season.

Londres City (LCY) à Avignon (AVN), lancée fin mai par la compagnie CityJet (WX/AF) filiale d'Air France, était effectuée 1 fois par semaine cette dernière saison, avec des horaires encourageant les sorties pour un weekend en Provence.
