Ryanair: Paris Beauvais – Wroclaw

Paris Beauvais (BVA) to Wroclaw (WRO) is a new route to be launched by Ryanair (FR) at the beginning of the summer timetable on 29 March 2012. The route will be operated 3 times weekly with Ryanair's Boeing 737-800 aircraft, equipped with 189 seats.
The new route is a part of Ryanair's new base in Wroclaw which will be set up next spring.
This flight is probably not primarily aimed at business travellers, not only due to the fact that Ryanair is not an airline geared towards the needs of business travellers, but moreover because the schedule is not really very helpful either. The flights are not particularly frequent and are more geared towards passengers travelling for leisure or to visit friends and relatives.

It is unusual for Ryanair to launch a route in direct competition with another carrier, because Ryanair often operates marginal routes which other carriers might struggle to make economically viable, from out-of-the-way airports which few carriers serve. However, Ryanair will be in direct competition with Wizz Air (W6), the Eastern European low-fares carrier, rival to Ryanair. Routes tend not to support two low-fares carriers, especially those such as these which have very similar business models, so it will be interesting to see the outcome of this market pressure.

Ryanair: Rome Ciampino – Marseille

Marseille (MRS) to Rome Ciampino (CIA) is one of the new routes from Ciampino Airport in Rome that Ryanair (FR) has launched with the beginning of the winter season. The route is operated three-times weekly with, as ever, Ryanair's single type of aircraft, the Boeing 737-800 with 189 seats. 

This is one of the routes that Ryanair used to operate wen it had a base in Marseille. Although it was abandoned last year due to disagreements on taxes with the French government, Ryanair maintains a large presence in Marseille's MP² low cost terminal. Summer flights are operated to Cagliari in Italy, in addition to the recently launched flights to Milan Bergamo.

These flights will probably attract mostly tourists, due to the fact that they are not really very well-timed for business trips and Air France operates this route at higher frequency from its new Marseille base, with flights are to Rome Fiumicino, Rome's larger airport.

Ryanair: Bordeaux – Rome Ciampino

Bordeaux (BOD) to Rome Ciampino (CIA) is a new route offered by Ryanair (FR) since 30 October 2011, to be operated with the company's 189-seater Boeing 737-800 aircraft on a four-times-weekly basis.

Ryanair already operate a small number of routes from Bordeaux Airport's low-cost terminal 'Billi' and Rome Ciampino will be the sixth destination Ryanair serves from the airport, the second destination in Italy after Bologna.

The flights could potentially be of use to business travellers, however on the whole the route will likely attract leisure passengers in much higher numbers. The schedule enables a variety of trip lengths.

Ryanair's main competition on the route will be Air France's route to Rome Fiumicino, with daily flights operated by Regional. easyJet also operate flights to Milan Malpensa from Bordeaux.

Ryanair vient d'inaugurer une ligne entre Bordeaux (BOD) et Rome Ciamipino (CIA). La ligne est desservie quatre fois par semaine depuis le 30 octobre dernier en Boeing 737-800 de 189 places.

La ligne pourrait attirer une partie du marché affaires vers Rome, mais une ligne vers l'autre aéroport à Rome, celui de Fiumicino, par Air France/Régional est opérée 7 fois par semaine, plus adapté à la clientèle affaires. La ligne devrait cependant attirer un bon nombre de voyageurs loisirs des deux côtés de la ligne. Les horaires des vols permettent des séjours de durées variables.

Ryanair: Marseille – Milan Bergamo

Marseille (MRS) to Milan Bergamo (BGY) is a new route that was launched by Ryanair (FR) on 30 October 2011. It is flown 10 times weekly (very frequently for a Ryanair route, especially a new one) with the standard 189-seater Ryanair Boeing 737-800 equipment. Bergamo airport is situated about an hour's drive outside of Milan.

The route links the second-largest cities of France and Italy, separated by 400km (250mi) of quite mountainous terrain. The trip can take up to five and a half hours by car. The route has a decent leisure and business potential, and the schedules take full advantage of this. Unusually well-timed for Ryanair flights, the scheduling permits day returns on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and a choice of flights which would be handy for weekend breaks.

Historically, the route has not seen a great deal of traffic. The route to Milan Malpensa (MXP), Milan's main airport has been continuously served for almost a decade by the almost-completely-unheard-of airline Twinjet (T7), which despite its name operates only tiny 19-seater Beech 1900D aircraft on a variety of marginal French routes. It has 9 flights a week (double-daily Monday to Thursday, one on Friday) but the pricing makes the flights only really suitable to business travellers.

A couple of years ago, Baboo (F7) started flights on the same route, with a double daily frequency on a triangle route from Geneva (GVA-MRS-MXP-GVA in the mornings, the opposite direction in the evenings)with considerably larger 74-seater Dash 8-Q400 aircraft. However, the route did not last more than a couple of seasons.
Now, Ryanair will also face competition from the recently launched Air France flights, which also operate directly into Malpensa airport. Originally scheduled to be operated with mainline Air France aircraft (therefore much larger aircraft), for an undisclosed reason (probably lack of demand because of Ryanair competition) the flights have been downgraded to the much smaller 46-seater ATR 42 aircraft of Airlinair, which link the two cities twelve times a week.

Ryanair: Manchester - Béziers

Manchester (MAN) to Béziers (BZR) is one of the routes that Ryanair (FR) is launching as part of its new base in Manchester. From 26 March 2012, Ryanair will fly the route twice weekly with its standard 189-seater Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

Ryanair will be launching a host of similar French routes from Manchester next March, and these will be covered in later posts. The route to Béziers, located in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of Sothern France was a fairly predictable ‘sun’ route, and will be undoubtedly popular with holidaymakers and second-home owners heading to southern France; the route will most likely only be available for the summer season (until October 2012). The timings are ideal for weekend breaks.

Béziers already has UK flights to Bristol (BRS) and London Stansted (STN) provided by Ryanair, in addition to services to Southampton (SOU), introduced last summer, provided by Flybe (BE).

Since 6 May 2011, Ryanair (FR) has been linking Beauvais (BVA), FR near Paris with Lamezia Terme (SUF), IT in Calabria, Southern Italy. The thrice-weekly flight is operated by your standard Ryanair Boeing 737-800, based at Milan's Bergamo airport.
Judging from the scheduling of the route, which lasts until the end of the Summer Schedule in October, and the flight prices viewable on www.ryanair.com, this route is geared towards the Paris-originating leisure market, although the route does seem to be stimulating a small amount of traffic from the Calabria end.

Ryanair: Charleroi (Brussels)-Biarritz

Three days ago, on 14 April 2011, Ryanair (FR) launched a route between Charleroi airport (CRL), south of Brussels and Biarritz-Anglet-Bayonne (BIQ), in the south-westernmost corner of France near the border with Spain. This route is operated twice weekly with a Boeing 737-800 aircraft, and acts as a replacement for Ryanair's previously operated Charleroi to Pau (PUF) service, which was discontinued because Pau airport stopped funding to Ryanair for the routes it maintained.

Just like every Ryanair route, Beauvais to Béziers will be operated with a Boeing 737-800 with 189 seats.

From 29 March 2011, Ryanair (FR), Europe's largest low-cost airline, will launch twice-weekly services between its base at Porto (OPO) in northern Portugal and Vatry (XCR), which Ryanair markets as Paris-Vatry (Disney) despite its location in the Champagne-Ardenne region, about 30 minutes' drive from Châlons-en-Champagne, 50 from Reims and over two hours away from Paris.

From 28 March 2011, Ryanair (FR) will launch a twice weekly route between Parma (PMF) in central Italy and Beauvais (BVA), an airport 120km north of Paris. Although neither airport is a base, Beauvais is Ryanair's busiest non-base airport; the flight will therefore be operated by a Dublin (DUB)-based aircraft on a DUB-BVA-PMF-BVA-DUB routing.

From 28 March 2011, Ryanair (FR) will start flying twice a week between Liverpool (LPL) in northwest England, and Toulon (TLN), a city on the Mediterranean between Marseillle and Nice.

Ryanair (FR), on 16 February next, will commence a twice-weekly service from its then-to-be-new base at Tenerife Sur (TFS) to Paris Beauvais Airport (BVA), 120km north of Paris. Flights will be operated on Wednesdays and Sundays with the airline's 189-seater Boeing 737-800 aircraft. Schedules:

Ryanair: Paris Beauvais - Brindisi

Ryanair (FR) has announced that they intend to launch a route from their base at Brindisi (BDS) on the southeast coast of mainland Italy, to Beauvais-Tillé Airport (BVA), situated 120km north of Paris. Ryanair serves this airport as an alternative for Paris, whose two main airports can be quite congested. The route will be operated twice weekly, on Thursdays and Sundays, with Ryanair's 189-seater Boeing 737-800 aircraft, starting on the 27^th of March 2011. The schedule is as follows:

This route is likely aimed at French tourists heading for the sun in southern Italy, but may also be suited to Italians from the Apulia region heading to Paris for business or leisure, as no other airline operates a Paris-Brindisi route (or a France –Brindisi route, for that matter). Thus the route faces no competition.

Cette ligne est probablement destinée aux touristes français en quête du soleil dans le sud de l'Italie, mais peut bien servir aux italiens venant de la région des Pouilles pour rejoindre la capitale française, puisqu'aucune autre compagnie n'opère des vols entre Brindisi et Paris, ou même de Brindisi vers n'importe quelle ville française. La ligne n'aura donc aucune concurrence.

Ryanair: La Rochelle-Porto

  Ryanair (FR), Europe's largest low-cost airline (and you wouldn't go too wrong calling it Europe's most dynamic airline), has announced that from the start of the summer schedules, on the 28^th of March, it will start connecting Porto (OPO), Portugal's second largest city, with La Rochelle (LRH), a city on France's western Atlantic coast.

  Starting next March, Ryanair will have two flights a week between the two cities, on Mondays and Fridays, that will be operated with 189-seater Boeing 737-800s. These flights allow for a weekend break in either city, which is probably what Ryanair is hoping to get some of its traffic from. Passenger numbers should also be generated by French holidaymakers and the Portuguese diaspora in this part of France.

  This is Ryanair's fifth route from La Rochelle, which by next March it will also serve from Brussels Charleroi (CRL), London Stansted (STN), Oslo Rygge (RYG) and Dublin (DUB). Ryanair serves eight other French towns and cities from its Porto base, of which the most recent addition was Rodez (RDZ), launched last month.

  Ryanair will face little competition, the most notable being Trasavia.com France (HV), who offer 2 weekly flights during the Summer between Porto and Nantes (NTE), two hours away by car. It is possible, however, that Ryanair's Porto to La Rochelle flights will also be seasonal. This information is not known.

  Ryanair (FR), la compagnie à bas coûts la plus grande d'Europe (et ce ne serait pas si faux de dire qu'elle est aussi la plus dynamique) a annoncé que dès le début des horaires d'été 2011, le 28 mars, elle inaugurera une liaison entre Porto (OPO), la deuxième ville portugaise et La Rochelle (LRH), une ville sur la côte atlantique ouest-française.

  Dès mars prochain, Ryanair aura deux vols par semaine reliant les deux villes, qui seront opérés les lundis et vendredis avec des appareils Boeing 737-800 de 189 places.
Ces vols donnent la possibilité de passer un weekend dans une ville ou l'autre, un atout avec lequel Ryanair espère sûrement attirer des passagers. La fréquentation devrait aussi être maintenue par les voyageurs français et la population portugaise vivant dans cette région de France.

  En l'occurrence, ce sera à son inauguration la troisième route de Ryanair au départ de La Rochelle, les autres étant Bruxelles Charleroi (CRL), Londres Stansted (STN), Oslo Rygge (RYG) et Dublin (DUB). Ryanair dessert huit autres destinations française depuis sa base à Porto, la plus récente parmi ceux-ci étant Rodez (RDZ), qui fût inauguré le mois dernier.

  Ryanair aura assez peu de concurrence sur cette nouvelle ligne, le seul véritable concurrent étant Transavia.com France (HV), qui offrira deux vols hebdomadaires en saison entre Porto et Nantes (NTE), deux heures au nord de La Rochelle en voiture. C'est aussi possible que les vols Ryanair entre Porto et La Rochelle seront saisonniers, mais nous ne pouvons pas encore connaître cette information.

Ryanair (FR), the Irish airline which has quickly become Europe’s largest low cost carrier, announced this week 3 new routes that it will start operating out of Beauvais (BVA), the airport that the airline uses to serve Paris despite it being 120km (75mi) away. These new routes are to Gothenburg-City (Säve) (GSE) in southern Sweden, which the airline will operate three times weekly from 13 Dec.; Krakow (KRK) in southern Poland, which the airline will operate twice weekly from 14 Dec. and Santander (SDR) on Spain’s north coast, which will be operated three times per week from the same date. All of these services will be flown by Ryanair’s 189-seat Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

  The only competition Ryanair faces here is from Air France (AF), who have 26 weekly flights between Paris (CDG), Paris’ largest airport and Gothenburg-Landvetter (GOT), Gothenburg’s main airport.

  On this route, Ryanair will have two airlines to compete with: easyJet (U2), who fly from Paris (CDG) to Krakow 5 times a week with 156-seat A319 aircraft and LOT (LO), the polish national carrier, who fly the route 6 times weekly with Embraer E70 70-seat regional jets. Beauvais-Poland is a market served mainly by Wizz Air (W6), the Polish low cost carrier, which flies 5 Polish routes from Beauvais, although Krakow is not one of them.

Santander:

   Santander is not served by any scheduled carrier from Paris at the moment.

   Because Paris-Beauvais is not a Ryanair base (neither are Gothenburg City, Krakow or Santander), the aircraft operating these flights will have to come on scheduled flights from bases to operate these routes. Paris-Beauvais is the airport that receives the most Ryanair traffic among those at which the Irish company does not have a based aircraft.

   Ce sera la première fois que Santander est desservi, depuis n’importe quell aéroport parisien.

    Puisque Paris-Beauvais n’est pas une base Ryanair (Göteborg City, Cracovie et Santander non plus), les avions qui effectuent ces vols doivent impérativement venir préalablement d’une base Ryanair. En effet, Paris-Beauvais est l’aéroport le plus fréquenté par Ryanair parmi ceux qui ne sont pas des bases.

Ryanair MRS-TSF

   Ryanair (FR) does not always announce new routes. In the case of Europoean routes, it seldom announces them if they are just a single route. This was the case for a route that appeared in their booking system earlier this month, from Ryanair’s sole French base at Marseille-Provence mp² (MRS) to Venice-Treviso Airport (TSF), near the famous northern Italian city. Following Ryanair’s policy of serving secondary airports to large cities, Venice-Treviso is located 25km from Venice proper. In comparison to other secondary airports that Ryanair serves, TSF is comparatively close. The route will operate three times weekly starting on 1 Nov. with Boeing 737-800 aircraft in a 189-seat configuration.

   Although Ryanair services are often aimed essentially at budget travellers, the route will likely also attract some people travelling on business. A route to Venice-Marco Polo (VCE), Venice’s main airport will be served by Corsica-based CCM Airlines (XK) from next February. Ryanair will face no competition on the route until CCM introduces this service, which will operate three times per week.

   Ryanair (FR) n’annonce pas toujours ses nouvelles liaisons aériennes. Dans les cas des routes en Europe, uniques, l’occasion est encore plus rare. C’était le cas pour une liaison qui est apparu dans le système de réservation de la compagnie à bas coûts irlandaise, en l’occurrence entre Marseille-Provence (MRS) et Venise-Trévise (TSF), près de la fameuse cité italienne. En accordance avec la tendance de Ryanair de choisir des aéroports plus éloignés que d’habitude des centres-villes, l’aéroport de Venise-Trévise est situé à 25km de Venise. En contraste avec les autres aéroports « secondaires » que dessert Ryanair, cet aéroport est plutôt près du centre-ville. La liaison sera opéré trois fois par semaine avec des appareils Boeing 737-800 de 189 places, dès le 1 novembre.

   Dans la plupart de ses marchés, Ryanair vise les passagers qui cherchent le moindre coût, mais ici il paraîtrait qu’il est aussi destiné aux hommes et femmes d’affaires. Une liaison est aussi proposée par la compagnie CCM Airlines (XK) basée à Corse entre Marseille et Venise-Marco Polo (VCE), mais elle commencera en février prochain; jusque là, Ryanair sera sans concurrent.

Three airlines on Paris-FEZ

   No less than three low-cost airlines have announced new flights from different Paris airports to the northern Moroccan city of Fez (FEZ), all due to start in early November with the implementation of the IATA winter schedule. These services are aimed at French travellers visiting the Moroccan region and at the Moroccan diasporas living in northern France.

   UK carrier easyJet (U2) will launch its first ever services to  Fez from its base at Paris-Charles de Gaulle T2E (CDG) on 11 Nov., which will operate three times per week (Tue, Thu, Sat) with its 156-seat A319 aircraft, scheduled as follows:

   Meanwhile, Air Arabia Maroc (3O) will have been operating its twice-weekly service to Paris- Charles de Gaulle T3 (Mon, Thu) for just ten days, with the first flight taking place on 1 Nov. with their Fez-based 162-seater A320 aircraft. Air Arabia Maroc is a low-cost carrier, however their business model is less rigorous than Ryanair or easyJet’s as they tend to leave more leeway when scheduling their flights:

   A mere day after Air Arabia Maroc launches their route, Ryanair (FR) will launch launch three-times-weekly services between Fez and Beauvais (BVA), a low-cost alternative to the major Paris airports, situated some 120km and a 2-hour bus ride from Paris’ city center. Because neither Beauvais nor Fez is a base for Ryanair, the 189-seater Boeing 737-800 will operate from its base at Madrid (MAD) the following routing: MAD-BVA-FEZ-MAD-FEZ-BVA-MAD. Incidentally, this leaves the schedule a bit perplexing:

   From the offset, these three carriers will be competing on what is essentially the same route, albeit from different “Paris” airports; however the Paris-Fez route is already served by three other carriers from Paris’ second airport, Orly (ORY). Royal Air Maroc (AT), Morocco’s state-owned airline, serves the route with daily Boeing 737-800 services; while private Moroccan low-cost airline Jet4you (8J) flies it 3 times weekly with Boeing 737-400 aircraft and low-cost Transavia France (TO) operate Boeing 737-800 aircraft on the route twice week. It looks like as French temperatures drop in November, the Paris-Fez market will be heating up.

Ni Beauvais ni Fès sont des bases Ryanair, donc l’avion, basé à Madrid (MAD) effectuera le trajet suivant les mardis, jeudis et dimanches : MAD-BVA-FEZ-MAD-FEZ-BVA-MAD, ce qui donne les horaires suivants entre Beauvais et Fès :
