Jet2.com GLA-NCE

   Just two days ago, Jet2.com (LS), a UK low-cost carrier announced a new base at Glasgow (GLA), Scotland’s largest city. This, its eighth base will launch next spring with an assortment of 9 routes, all operated between once and five times per week. Most of these routes were to popular summer and winter sun destinations in the Mediterranean. One, however, is to Nice-Côte d’Azur Airport (NCE) on the France’s Mediterranean coast, not normally associated with package holidays or cheap hotels. Nonetheless, it remains a holiday destination.

    Jet2.com’s new GLA-NCE route will be operated twice per week from 1 Apr ‘11 until the beginning of October with the Boeing 737-300 aircraft configured with 148 seats that the airline intends to base at Glasgow come next spring. It is probable that most of the passengers taking this new route, unserved by any other airline will be tourists from the Glasgow area as the UK is where Jet2.com draws the majority of its passengers. However, Scotland is a popular holiday destination among the French, so it is quite possible some of the passengers will be niçois, along with the occasional passenger travelling on business.

   As previously stated, the route faces no direct competition, but may find a competitor in easyJet’s (U2) 3 times weekly summer route between nearby Edinburgh (EDI) and Nice.

Cette base, la huitième pour la compagnie, sera inaugurée en printemps 2011 avec 9 destinations, qui seront tous opérés entre une et cinq fois par semaine. La plupart de ces destinations sont des sites de tourisme en masse méditerranéens, tandis que Nice Côte-d’Azur (NCE) sur la côte méditerranéenne française, est un peu moins bon marché. Tout de même, Nice reste une destination « vacances ».

   La nouvelle liaison Glasgow-Nice de Jet2.com sera opéré effectué deux fois par semaine dès le 1 avril 2011 jusqu’à début octobre, avec l’appareil Boeing 737-300 de 148 places que la compagnie a l’intention de baser à l’aéroport écossais. Il est probable que la plupart des passagers seront des touristes de la région de Glasgow en quête du soleil, car Jet2.com attire une majorité de passagers britanniques. Toutefois, l’Ecosse est une destination populaire parmi les français, et il y aura certainement des niçois et quelques businessmen sur la nouvelle route.

La compagnie sera sans concurrent sur cette liaison, mais il est à noter que la compagnie rivale easyJet (U2) opère trois vols par semaine en été entre Edimbourg et Nice.
